Evaluating My GAME Plan Progress

This week has been a good week as far as making some progress in meeting my goals of learning more about technology. One of the actions I took this week was to learn how to use the Mobi-Interactive learning system (3 units) that I had purchased for my classroom with funds from a grant I wrote. I had attempted to use the equipment previously but I had some problems with pairing all the units to have my students use two units simultaneously with a split screen projected. I decided to start simple now and then later try to figure a more complex setting. I know it requires time to accomplish things right and I will try to take one step at a time.

The Mobi-Interactive Learning system can be used in my teaching to motivate and engage my students into their learning. I had my class do a math quiz using the units and they liked the system very much that they could hardly wait for their turn to answer a question. I can use this system on almost every subject but I know it will take me time to find the materials that I can incorporate into my curriculum. I need to check the Promethean Planet and other sites to find interactive lessons that are aligned with my state TEKS. All this research requires time and I know it might be a while before I can implement my lessons as I want to. One thing I can do is to continue adjusting my plan to add lessons as I find them and also to continue looking for learning opportunities for my students.

To be able to provide more meaningful learning opportunities for my students I know I need to continue learning about educational research. One site that I enjoyed from our learning resources this week is the Encyclopedia of Educational Technology published by the San Diego State University Department of Educational Technology at http://coe.sdsu.edu/eet/articles/problembl/index.htm This site has great links to all kind of research and articles such as Enhancing Multiple Intelligences Through Multimedia, Active Learning, and Neuroplasticy to mention some.

  1. Sounds great, but what is this Mobi-interactive learning system? Sounds interesting! Research does require time, but if we, like you said, take one step at a time and be consistant in our efforts, we will be successful in our accomplishments. I'm hoping to apply for some grants next year. Maybe I'll be able to find a great addition to add to my classroom. Good Luck!

  2. Rebekah,

The InterwriteMobi is a learning system that is used for interactive learning. I have three of these units in my classroom. It is a digital writing tablet that uses a pen and the purpose of the pen is to act as a mouse. The teacher or student use the pad from anywhere in the classroom kind of a computer screen and the pen is used as a mouse. This type of learning is interactive because you can use the pen as a mouse of as a pen to write on a document, page, etc. Let’s say that I’m doing a lesson on symmetry. I can show some geometric shapes and have my students use the MOBI to draw a line using the pen as a “pen” or highlighter. Then everything they are doing is projected on the white board. You can also have them solve a problem or play games, etc. Here is the link for you to learn more about this product in case you are interested http://www.einstruction.com/products/interactive_teaching/mobi/index.html

Writing a grant is a good idea. This school year I wrote two and I was awarded one for math and technology and that’s how I purchased the MOBI ( I only had to pay less than $200 out of my pocket).

    Have a great week!
