GAME plan process for my students
In order to help my students develop proficiency in the NETS-S standards I need to continue my technology integration in order to give my students the opportunity to create digital projects that they can be proud of. Once I give my students the tools they need to build their knowledge I need to become a facilitator who will be there to provide assistance when needed but allow them to become the authors and architects of their own projects.
I also need to stay updated about new technologies by doing a variety of activities such as attending workshops where I can learn more, spend time researching sites or programs that might work for my class and creating projects that I can show my students to spark their interest. I understand that if I want to inspire my students into learning and using technology I need to be a model for them.
My goal is to have my students learn to use as many technologies as possible that they can use in our grade level across the curriculum. They know how to use PowerPoint and Publisher. Their next step is to learn Photostory3, Glogster, and basic digital photography. In addition I need to continue teaching new skills to help them become better researchers, collaborators, and consumers of information using electronic resources.

I think 2 key points that you bring up are critical-continue to integrate technology and continue to learn and stay updated. Technology is the here and now and the future. One of our main goals is to teach students how to learn and be ready for the ever changing technology the future holds.
ReplyDeleteYou make a great point about needing to model new technology for your students. Students need to be shown how technologies work and hear the vocabulary associated with each new concept. While I agree that students learn best through trial and error, I think it's irresponsible to let them explore something new without guidance. After you've modeled, then you can become the facilitator, as you mentioned. It sounds like you have a great GAME plan for your students to help them succeed!
ReplyDeleteStaying up to date with technology is crucial if we expect our students to do the same. Like any subject I think you said it correctly when you mentioned that the teacher must model the type of behavior expected from the students. When the students see you excited and taking the time to research new tools and technology the students become excited and motivated as well. It sounds as though your district is doing a great job of supplying you with the tools you need to achieve success with technology.
ReplyDeleteRebekah,
ReplyDeleteYou are right; technology is here to stay, so we must definitely put the technology tools in the hands of our students. Once they learn the basics and develop a love for technology they will be on their way to create products to show us their knowledge. From there they can navigate the technology world and discover all the wonderful things that it withholds.
M bonus,
ReplyDeleteEven though is impossible to learn about all the technology tools that are available for education, one must find a few that work for ones classroom. Once that is done, then one needs to consistently use technology to show our students its effectiveness. And yes, you are right, enthusiasm and excitement is contagious, so if we show that, I’m sure our students can imitate us when it is their turn to do their show and tell.
There is a strong technology vision in my district but unfortunately not much funds. This misbalance makes technology integration in many classrooms a little difficult but not impossible. For now, we have to work with the old computers we have but it is better than nothing.
Brooke,
ReplyDeleteYes, becoming a facilitator should be the goal of the teacher once their part of teaching, modeling and checking for understanding is completed. We need to teach our students how to fly and then set them free. Many times if you hold their hands for a long time, some students can become very dependent. I believe that all my third graders, even special ed students, are very capable of using many technologies once they had a chance to practice a few times. One can be amazed at the extra things students can discover once they start their journeys. Don’t you agree?

ReplyDeleteYou are on the right path with staying up on the new and ever changing world of technology. Especially as educators it is so important that we are constantly learning, expanding our skills and being prepared ourselves to help our students. Just as they are the leaders of tomorrow, we are the leaders of today. If we are stuck in the past, then we are not doing our job looking ahead but rather standing still in the past.

And I am sure that the three skills that you have mentioned that you want them to learn will go very well. Young people love to take pictures so developing their talent is a plus and it will boost interest in your subject area. Students only want to know that you are willing to try with them and encourage them since we are all learning together and their interest peaks 100%.
